TempDB Database Configuration

Ideally, have one TempDB data file per physical core.
For a server with eight cores, that would be one .mdf file and seven .ndf files.
The TempDB files should not be on the System (C) drive.
The script below will move TempDB from current location to a folder on drive (T) with a 1GB file.

use master
go
alter database tempdb modify file (name=’tempdev’, filename=’T:\MSSQL\DATA\tempdb.MDF’, size = 1gb)
go
alter database tempdb modify file (name=’templog’, filename=’T:\MSSQL\LOGS\templog.LDF’, size = 1gb)
go

Restart SQL Server for changes to take effect.
