Calculating Bandwidth for Hosting needs

A question that comes up often, how much bandwidth do you need?
I asked one of our resident Cisco masterminds and to me a personal favorite Luis Mercado and here is what he has been so kind as to share with me.

It all depends on the business model, application type, how dynamic the data is and  the traffic patterns inherent to the  application the client is using.
The size of storage may be dictated by how critical the data being stored is. Is data  recovery a necessity, how many copies of it are needed and how long the data needs to be archived?

In some sense it’s possible to have very low bandwidth requirements while storage requirements are high and vice versa
I think  in the end the client should know best because they have access to their monthly bill, but we should be able to offer a solution

based on our own experience with existing clients who are doing similar things. We can always ask them to send us a break down of

their bill.
